This past November 30th, 25 Pastors and leaders from different churches in New Jersey gathered to enjoy a morning of fellowship. Everyone in the room had one goal: to learn more about the Suffering Church and how to respond to the cry of our brothers and sisters from various parts of the world.
The first speaker was Brother Ed, a former Muslim who has been persecuted for his faith and his decision to follow Christ. He shared a simple yet impactful message about God’s never failing Love and His provision in the hardest of situations. Ed has not seen his family in more than a decade and probably won’t ever be able to go back to his home without suffering the consequences of choosing Jesus as his savior. His response to this reality has been to go forward, not looking back, raising awareness and sharing God’s story of redemption and love to others while he persists in prayer for his loved ones.
Our second speaker, Pastor Phillip Nation, challenged the leaders by asking “How should we respond?” With his very practical steps we learned it is possible to be relevant and to engage in a task that sometimes sounds so overwhelming. The Suffering Church is very real and is present all across the globe. But with small steps, together we can do more and be the answer to the cry of those that are suffering persecution.
